ECVA is a community of artists, arts supporters, art historians and theologians acting in support of our common life in the Episcopal Church. It encourages local artists and visual arts communities, assists churches in integrating the visual arts into their worship space and liturgy, develops forums to explore the theology of visual art, and creates a heightened awareness of the spiritual role of the visual arts in an individual's life and in the life of the church.

Call For Entries - Symbols

ECVA is partnering with the Office of Communications Web Team to sponsor an exhibition "Symbols" which will consist of original clip art that illustrates, represents or references Episcopal or Christian concepts (e.g. baptism, trinity, alpha and omega). Art selected for the "Symbols" exhibition may be used in the Visitors Center (www.episcopalchurch.org/visitors). It may also be selected for the Image Shop online catalog of clip art (www.episcopalchurch.org/imageshop). The Image Shop is a resource of the Office of Communications that makes images available for free use by parishes around the country.

For the "Symbols" exhibition artists are invited to submit 2-3 examples of original art that responds to this call, either black and white or full color. Many styles are encouraged: calligraphy, wood cut, comic book, digital art, line drawings, etc. Selected "Symbols" artists will be invited to submit 12-15 symbols for free use in the Image Shop where their work will be posted along with a biographical paragraph including their specialty (e.g. logos, stations of the cross, etc.), and contact information.

File Format: TIF, BMP, PICT, ESP or PNG. Preferred Resolution: at 150 dpi (600 x 600 pixels, 4" x 4") or at 300 dpi (900 x 900 pixels, 3" x 3").

Deadline for submissions August 15, 2006 (extended to September 15, 2006).

Please email entries to symbols@ecva.org.

Exhibition curators: Office of Communications, Art Director and Web Content Editor.

Online Exhibition Opening: With launch of revised Visitors Center, by end of 2006.
